E. Kolben

CKD stands for Czech-Moravian Kolben and Danek. The beginning of Mr. Kolben´s production activities is dated back to times, when he cooperated with Thomas A. Edison in the years 1890-1892. Kolben's electrotechnic company “Kolben a spol.” was founded 29. Oct. 1896 in Prague Vysocany.
In 1921 Českomoravská-Kolben, a.s. was founded (corporate merger of Kolben
a spol. with První Českomoravská strojírna). In 1927 company Strojírna Breitfeld-Daněk a spol. merged to create “Českomoravská-Kolben-Daněk, a.s.”
For a long time the main final products of the ČKD corporation were locomotives, compressors and tramways. The corporation
began production on site in 1967. In 1990 the state-owned corporation was split, ČKD Kutna Hora became an independent private share-holders company, since 1995 fully privatised with no state share.
In the years 2000-2002 ČKD Kutná Hora, a. s. bought foundries in Chrudim
and in České Budějovice and machining shop in Chrudim. ČKD Kutná Hora, a. s.
employs in all its shops about 800 employees nowadays.
